History
Joos Joiners was founded by Mr. Joseph Joos in 1971.Mr. Joos was born in Belgium in 1946, where he received his schooling and did his apprenticeship as joiner and truck body builder, because the body’s of the trucks in those days were made of wood.
Mr. Joos responded to an advert in the paper from South Africa. They were enquiring for skilled workmen, and after some deliberation took the difficult decision to immigrate to South Africa, leaving behind his family who he still lived with at that time.
So after taking the decision he left for South Africa in 1967 at 21 years of age, he took a flight from Brussels in Belgium to Johannesburg, and then a train from Johannesburg to Cape Town which at that stage took 36 hours form Johannesburg to Cape Town.
He started working at West Engineering in 1967 till late in 1969 which made truck bodies. In that year he married Greetje whom he met in 1968 and who emigrated from Holland in 1968 on the boat Oranje Fontein. Her brother also lived in South Africa, the reason for her coming to this country.
He then started working for De Haan body builders in 1969 after he was made a better job offer and worked there till 1971. He then shortly worked for Tygerberg body builders.
He saw an opportunity to start his own business, and in 1971 Joos Joiners was founded. In that same year Jos, the first son was born.
The business started small in a single garage in Jones Street in Parow, where the company started making window and door frames and ordinary woodwork. In 1975 the second son, Leo was born.
The demand for bedroom and kitchen cupboards started to grow and therefore the focus changed to manufacturing and installations of build in cupboards.
The space soon became a problem after many alterations and extra roofing just was not good enough anymore. The decision was made to purchase a house with an extra 100m2 of future factory space, where the first factory was build in 1976.
Mr. Joos then built a separate home and used the existing house as office facilities and added extra space to the existing factory in 1977.
In 1981 Mr. Joos bought new premises in Stikland, Bellville were a larger updated factory was built with 1500m2 floor space, and moved to the new premises in 1982 where production resumed with the manufacturing of kitchen, bedroom, office cupboards etc.
In 1992 Jos, the oldest son joined the family business as sales consultant, who at present is the Sales Manager of a very experienced team at the showroom.
Leo, the youngest son started working for the company in 1993 and is at present the production manager at the factory premises.
Joos Joiners had a major setback in 1993 when the factory burned halfway to the ground. The assumed reason was arson, but still unresolved to this day. Through hard work and determination the company still came out on top with sheer will and determination from dedicated personnel and employer.
A bigger showroom was opened in 1994 in Strand Street in Bellville as more space was needed to display the ever growing range and more factory space was needed where the showroom was taking up too much space.
Upgrading of machines took the factory to a high level of quality and precision and Joos Joiners started emerging as one of the top kitchen companies in the Western Cape region.
Showroom designs started to evolve into 3D designs as the computers got better and the software market started to develop design programs specifically for the kitchen industry.
In 2001 a factory was built next to the existing factory. The showroom was integrated at the front of the new building, thus bringing together again the factory and showroom, for better communication and better streamlining of work and work in progress.
The floor space of the factory now is 2500m2 and the double volume floor showroom 800m2.
The showroom in upgraded continually, to keep our customers up to date with the latest developments and technology.
